Is that the only reason you suspect Autism or are there other reasons? And if so what? I'm not an expert, but with children with Autism, it is not uncommon for them to wake up crying. With most people that I have talked to or stories that I have read, that is a common thing. One of my two boys wakes up every night crying/screaming.

I have found that the wake up/crying cycle is from overstimulation during the day. Our autistic daughter used to do it quite often.(she's now 12). Also, our toddler son does it frequently, and he has a sensory processing problem. I found nothing that prevents it or helps it. We just struggled through it. They will outgrow it.

My Grandson Rowan never cried - he was always joyful and happy and singing - he is non-verbal but makes happy sounds and is primarily a joyful happy soul. He is 4-1/2 - he has just started crying - for no reason - he will just burst out crying....very sad moaning crying - nothing stops it - then just like it started - it stops and he is happy again - it is happening a LOT lately....his lead specialist says this is a GOOD THING...that he is getting in touch with his emotions. So, I don't know - but it makes me very sad to hear him cry.

I don't think that crying at the same time at night repeatedly is a common trait of an autistic child. Perhaps there are other reasons that might have caused this. I suggest you monitor your child's daily activity and refer to your pediatrician/specialist.

Have you talked to a DAN doctor? They have a whole new take on Autism. Read more about them at www.autismhopeandhealing.com I think they might be able to answer your questions about crying at the same time. And no, I don't think it is a symptom either.

It makes me happy that people become more and more aware of such a disease as autism and more and more people are getting involved into medical research.

Our daughter is 5 and she is severely deaf and autistic.. Frequently at night she will wake up for 2-3 hours crying.. We don't know what to do or what is wrong with her.. It's very difficult for us.. We give her melatonin as a sleep aid but wonder if it may b bringing on nitemares or having a reverse effect on her.. Any answers out. There??

why does my son wake up screaming he is autistic. <---- wrote that that way to help dads google search and find this. My son wakes up every night screaming in pain for 1 hour to 4 hours like he is in terrible pain. We have 2 severely autistic children so we arent new to this as this one is 3.5 the other is almost 7. The thing I feel is the problem is that we give both melatonin before bed. I think this is the problem. Any one else? With autism it could really be anything so this is not me against melatonin because with out that stuff my 67 year old could go 3 days without sleep,
