I am an in-home therapist for an autistic child. He is 7 yrs old. He doesnt talk but I am getting him to say a few words, such as...yes, no, hi, good, He is doing an excellent job. He may not say the words clearly but the parents and I know what they are. They will come in time. The parents are pleased w/ the programs I am teaching him. It all has to do w/ repetition, fun, and discipline. I am happy to have experienced this and know what the parents go through. Before taking this job, I didn't have a clue about this disorder, but I am glad I have had the experience, and I am planning on doing this for the remaining working years. After the holidays the real work will begin, i.e. colors, dressing, cleanliness, etc. I believe everyone should experience this....
p.s. I have been working w/ this child for only 2 months.
