My name is Amy, and my Husband's name is Culley. We have a beautiful two year old named Stone. Stone was recently diagnosed with Autism at the Growth and Developement Center in Little Rock, AR. I was sad to hear that; however, I think I knew something wasn't right. Stone was 9lbs 15oz when he was born. He was and still is the cutest child I have ever seen. He seemed to be the perfect baby. Rarely cried, slept often just like most babies. I started noticing as he got older that he didn't want to learn...ANYTHING! My Husband thought I was being paranoid, being new parents and all.
Stone often does not respond to discipline. He seemed to hate me. Even if I wasn't the one who said, "no". I came to the conclusion that he could not hear what I was saying. Of course, that assumption was made after 15 hospital spells with ear infections. The doctor asked that we take him to get tubes in both ears. So we did! I thought ok now he will catch up. Wrong! He still would not listen, but he hasn't had any ear infections. Stone constantly spins wheels on cars, walks on tippie toes, physically challenges me, refuses to eat almost everything, and has many other peculiar behaviors. Stone speaks in what sounds like someone talking under their breath in gibberish. He can now within the last week say "bye" and "mamamaaa" I think that is Mama:) He memorizes EVERY song he hears, but can't verbalize. So it is more like a humming sound, but it is the song...you can tell that.
We are going for his rating scale in January. I am ready to hear whatever they say! I want all the help he can get. I want Stone to live a very fulfilled life whether it be independent or dependent. I have tried the Gluten and Dairy free diet and it has not helped. I hope as time goes on I can learn more. Stone had a bilateral cyst in his brain in utero. I was so concerned about that then, but every doctor just acted like it was no big deal. I am wondering now if they were wrong? I want to get more involved with organizations that help with Autism. Please point me in the right direction!
Thank you!
