Recently in Largo, Florida, a mother called the police to help her with her son who has Asperger's. The son was very agitated when the police arrived. The mom begged to go back inside the house and try to calm him down, but the police refused to let her in the house. Instead, the police entered the home and shot the young man because he was holding a knife.
This is a senseless tragedy and underscores the need for law enforcement and other first responders to be trained in dealing with autistic people.
